I used to call this design my “snow rose,” but now it’s the “frozen rose.” Which do you prefer?

The frozen rose ice sculpture design is cut from a half block slab (40”x20”x4-5”) of ice with the addition of a stabilizing base. This is an adaptable design that can be used for, among other things, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and weddings (see below). The space for engraving text is small, so this design might not work for longer messages. While engraving the rose, don’t worry about making it perfect; some of the smaller details might break out while carving, which is fine. The outside border of the rose is cut rough with a chisel and/or ice pick. When the sculpture is displayed, colored lighting can be a big plus (see above).

different design variations and uses

As I’ve included several versions of the design, you can see that there are at least a few potential uses for this rose ice sculpture design. And actually, when I first designed this sculpture, I thought I’d be sculpting it all the time, since it seemed to me to be so adaptable.

Not so much.

Someone suggested that the single rose might be a little solemn and maybe better for a funeral. I’m not sure. Let me know what you think if you have an opinion on this. I’ve learned over the years that sometimes things that I am sure will definitely work…don’t. This was kinda one of those things. So I’m sure I could learn something if I had some different perspectives.

how would it work on a CNC machine?

Very well suited for a CNC. If I ever make this rose ice sculpture again, I won’t be making it by hand.
