the last of 2024 trickles away down into 2025 in my hourglass ice sculpture design.
my hourglass ice sculpture design for New Years
updated 1/2/24 with design switches and 4/19/23 significantly when added to iss
This hourglass ice sculpture design has been updated for the next couple New Years. The ice sculpture again requires a half block slab (40”x20”x4-5””) and an additional base piece not shown in the template. This design gets around the inherent structural problems of an ice hourglass by employing the snowfill engraving method. Still, you can choose not to carve out the space between the hourglass and the posts if you wish. You can also use a thicker slab if you want and round out the hourglass itself more (that is, if you engrave the “sand” from the back of the sculpture). Or, carve it as is and do all of the snowfill engraving from the front. I have the next few versions already done, but I may try to refine the design some at a later date; perhaps for an ebook. This design shows a few refinements from the previous version. Happy (early) New Year!
this isn’t my only timepiece ice sculpture design. Make sure to check out the “2 minutes to midnight” design as well.
what about next year? or after that?
Since I finally got a chance to do an update (on 4/19/23), I included the next New Years version after 2025. I’m going to try to be diligent and provide updates and/or upgrades for the coming years.
I’ll start on 2027 a little later…
does it work well on a CNC machine?
Oh, this hourglass ice sculpture would be fantastic on your CNC machine, especially if you backfill it. Then you can round the hourglass slightly for great effect. I’ll be suggesting this design to my clients in December, no doubt!
