my flamingo ice sculpture design

This flamingo ice sculpture design was by request from another ice carver who, oddly enough considering the design, lives in Alaska. It’s a relatively straightforward design with the structural support problem solved by stylized vegetation that supports most of the bird’s body weight. In that way, the bird’s legs can be as delicate and realistic as possible. Depending on the length of the event, you can carve the legs a little thicker so that they last longer, but you’re not worried about carving the legs thick enough so that the sculpture doesn’t collapse. The vegetation will also help control drips as it melts, especially at the tail.

The second drawing below shows a couple of optional transport struts that you can add if you’re worried about the sculpture making it to the set up site in one piece. Once the sculpture is in place, you can carefully remove the struts. Finally, don’t forget the pink lighting!

flamingo ice sculptures are like swans. Their necks are very delicate. Here are some optional transport struts, if you say, have a difficult delivery.
