my rabbit holding egg ice sculpture depicts a bunny staring rather intently at his color egg

my rabbit holding egg ice sculpture, for Easter
My rabbit holding egg ice sculpture design is a last minute entry for Easter. (Well, it was last minute when this post was originally written, over a decade ago.) I had the design up before that on my ice carving secrets fan page and I suspect I’ll be posting designs there a little earlier at times than on the main site simply from a convenience and speed point of view.
This piece is cut out of one block and the color is added by sandwiching a cutout color gel in between two pieces of ice. The gel is cut slightly smaller than the ice surface but the final curved surface of the egg magnifies the color plastic, making it look like it’s almost to the edge of the ice. See the picture below to get a different view of the egg. The weld splits the egg and the paw and the gel will usually stay in place after the ice has melted away some, although it will be easy to remove.
This ends up being a fairly lightweight sculpture and is easy to lift if you leave the grass at the base a little bit thick so that it can be used as handholds.
try for not creepy
Looking at my drawings and sculpture with fresh eyes, I can see that my rabbit holding egg ice sculpture is ALMOST creepy. A little more towards creepy and it would be a problem. This is definitely a thing. You must have at some point seen the scary mall Easter Bunnies that want you to sit on their lap, Santa-style, while they scare the bejesus out of you, right? Don’t sculpt that rabbit unless it’s for Halloween!
Anyway, just make sure you stay out of that realm if you try this sculpture, kind of like how you want to stay out of the overly-phallic realm with any sort of ice tower, or rocket, or lumpy vertical thing. BE CAREFUL!
here’s a side view of the colored plastic inside the ice egg. Hopefully, most people won’t see your rabbit holding egg ice sculpture from this angle.
the stuff at the end
There is, by the way, a roundup post of Easter ice sculpture designs. If you’re making a creepy bunny for Halloween, you can skip that. You can also get yourself a creepy bunny mask if you ARE making it for Halloween.
