rockets' red glare
my fireworks ice sculpture design
updated and expanded slightly 6/25/23
This fireworks ice sculpture is a new design and can likely be used only one day of the year. (Although I suppose it could be adapted for Chinese New Year, but that might be a stretch.)
currently, this is the only fireworks ice sculpture design on the site, but that may change soon as I try to get ready for 7/4 this year.
how about ice instead of fire?
Much of my life I lived in New Mexico and it’s hard not to think of Albuquerque as home, especially with all the moving I’ve done over the last few years. This summer my home state, like Arizona, is threatened with huge wildfires. (As it is pretty much every year now.) I can only imagine the threat they pose if you live in the wrong area: there’s no way to know if your life will shortly be turned upside down. So I hope for luck and rain. Because of the dangers, New Mexico’s governor has stepped in, asking citizens to not set off their own and attend public fireworks displays instead. (This was in 2011.) On Facebook, there’s a push to boycott fireworks this year and the conversation is spirited on both sides.
At any rate, I’m hoping for the best: lots of rain. (Although that would put a damper on the public fireworks displays.)
Back to the fireworks ice sculpture design: of course, this sculpture should get red lighting. And one more thing: anyone using MY fireworks runs absolutely no risk of fire whatsoever! Happy Fourth of July!
I will probably redesign this
I’m going to try to redesign this piece in the near future. I may not make it for July 4th this year (2023) though. It’s not a big redesign that I’m thinking, but it could help a lot with this sculpture. You see, rockets and tower ice sculptures have a big problem. Unless they’re sculpted just right, or even if they are, they can eventually appear phallic. Well, actually, they probably appear phallic the whole time! But it gets worse as they melt! 😫
The solution for this is to make it an engraved design only and to not try to sculpt the rocket part of the fireworks ice sculpture design. It’s not a big change to add an offset border of ice to the whole sculpture. The problem is that I’m buried with just getting this site functional. So we’ll see.
additional stuff
Hopefully, you immediately knew the source of this design’s title: “rockets’ red glare.” But just in case, here it is.
