this is one of a few Frozen ice sculptures that I’ve done: Olaf by a Frozen sign. Can you guess how I made his bright orange nose? (hint: it’s not a carrot)

Frozen ice sculptures
For ice artists, Disney’s “Frozen” is a bit like a 102 minute long advertisement for ice sculptures. And this movie looks like it will have some serious staying power over the years, and probably sequels too. However, the main theme song from the movie, “Let it Go,” has probably by now pushed at least a few parents to the brink of insanity. (Even the cat in the video below has something to say about it.)
Since it’s computer animation, there isn’t so much as a real icicle or snowflake in “Frozen.” The movie does boast some pretty impressive simulated ice though. Typically, this is not something that’s been done well in the past, and the “Frozen” animators by and large did a masterful job of making computer-generated ice look just like real ice. The early ice sequences and Elsa’s castle are particularly awesome!

Quite logically, Frozen has inspired many real-life Frozen ice sculptures. Ice sculptures have been used to promote the movie’s opening and the release of the DVD, similar to how they’ve been used for the Ice Age movies. However, they took it a step further. With Disney’s involvement, the ultimate Frozen ice sculpture display was completed in Belgium late last year. Check out the video of the amazing larger-than-life ice sculptures!
Aaaannnd here are some more:
Ice Pro did a display version of Olaf for a ballroom…
…but then they also froze the fountain outside of Minus5˚ Orlando! Pretty cool! Except for the part where it’s in Florida. In the Summer.
Olaf showed up again in Biloxi, MS at Edgewater Mall. There were actually two Olafs here. The big ice one…
…and then a teeny tiny Olaf pin frozen into the middle of ice Olaf.
In Biloxi, I checked out an oversized Olaf ice sculpture. It was a contest where you guess when Olaf the pin falls out of Olaf the ice sculpture.
I guessed, but I was REALLY far off. So much for 20+ years of ice experience. I think they sat there in the middle of the night with hairdryers. I’m thinking of launching an investigation too because I REALLY wanted to win the prize of going to Disney World. Haven’t been there for gosh, like a month and a half…
Nice idea for a contest though. The pin apparently fell out 11:36 am on Sunday and the ice was set up at 10 am on Saturday. I won’t say what my guess was.
Have you done an ice sculpture based on “Frozen?” Comment below or send us a pic with the details and perhaps we can add it to the entry. Thanks!

If you’ve done some Frozen ice sculptures, I’d love to hear what you did. Could end up on the site too!
This is the only post just about Frozen ice sculptures, but over the years, I’ve written several articles and posts related to movie and tv ice sculptures. Below are a few links to other posts on the site.
