this is the newer CNC color version of my MOM ice sculpture with a rose. The bottom detail is done with a bubble bit (from Icecrafters). This is just one of a variety of Mother’s Day ice sculptures that I have for you!
updated with new additions 5/13/24 (which is the day AFTER Mother’s Day, so SUPER helpful 🤣)
and just like that, here comes Mother's Day!
For most ice sculptors, Easter starts off a fairly busy period. As I update this, Mother’s Day is on May 11, 2025. Usually, Mother’s Day isn’t too far behind Easter, and then sometimes there’s work for Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby to do right when you have to work on all your Mother’s Day ice sculptures.
When I lived in Albuquerque, I set my personal record for brunch ice sculptures on Mother’s Day (18). That’s me doing all the sculpting and all the delivering 😯 I don’t even try to match that these days, but many sculptors beat that regularly on Mom’s special day.
Rather than wait until Mother’s Day is almost upon us then, I thought I’d post what I had for Mother’s Day so far as soon as possible. If you did Easter sculptures for a client and they were happy, then you’ll naturally ask them what they want for Mother’s Day.
I’ve been collecting Mother’s Day ice sculpture designs from the old ice carving secrets site and other ones that were never on that site. Everything I’ve been able to post so far is listed below with anchor links to jump to each design. Btw, you might want to use the anchor links to skip down to what you want. You see, Google likes it when I write a lot, but you might have a different opinion The links let you skip a lot of the parts where I’m most likely to get off topic. Cuz that will definitely happen!
Strangely, almost all of my Mother’s Day designs were already added to the new site. That made it a little easier than it was for Easter, where I had to go back and update old posts. Now I can focus on adding a few new designs before we actually get to Mother’s Day.
all my Mother's Day ice sculpture designs
you don’t have to put Easter lilies in your Mother’s Day basket ice sculpture. That’s just the only pic I have :/
basket
Deja vu. Besides Easter, the basket is also one of my Mother’s Day ice sculptures.
I don’t remember if this was originally for Easter, or if I designed it to be a Mother’s Day ice sculpture. But does it matter?
calla lily
Wait, didn’t I just see this design recently too? Yes, the calla lily design can be used as both an Easter AND a Mother’s Day ice sculpture as well. Promise, that’s the last one that’s in both collections!
here’s a new one, so new that it was too late for the last Mother’s Day, 5/12/24
high heel shoe for Mother's Day
This is a high heel ice sculpture design that’s really intended to be run on a CNC. It involves several layers of color fill and all the detail is enclosed in the center of the sculpture, so the CNC’s precision is really helpful here.
I’ve recently updated this design, adding color. My previous version had been around FOREVER.
block letter "MOM" (horizontal)
My block letter “MOM” design is very similar to the first ice sculpture I ever made. Except it’s spelled completely differently, since that one was a “DAD.” And there was no rose. But the chef teaching me, Victor Rede, did make a cool necktie to hang off of the sculpture instead!
Incidentally, I didn’t use a template for my first sculpture. I didn’t even know what a template was at that point. Thus, my first ice sculpture didn’t turn out great, at all. So don’t be like me! Use a template or even better, a CNC machine.
you can see that this is a very old design. Very last century! But I’ve done it a number of times and it comes out looking pretty good!
"MOM" stylized with flower
I actually have a pretty good photo of my stylized “MOM” with flower design. I’ll post it later. I’m looking forward to adding this design to my CNC repertoire this year!
I like this sculpture; hate the photo. But I didn’t get to choose where to put it and evidently my photography skills weren’t on point that Mother’s Day.
"MOM" vertical
I do like this design; vertical sculptures have a smaller footprint and stand out better. Check out the post on the vertical “MOM” design.
this is one of the newer designs here. It’s a redesign of a sculpture that used a borrowed graphic. I’ve changed the graphic enough now that I feel like it’s my design. Inspired by another, sure, but I’ve added my own ideas to it so that it’s now something new.
abstract mother and child
Mom’s love for her child is indicated by the heart integrated into the design. The abstract mother and child design is a newer design for Mother’s Day. While I’ve long had a similar design in my catalog, it was never a part of the old ice carving secrets site.
this is another one that I’m looking forward to adding to my CNC catalog. It should be an effective design, although I may change the font when I build the CNC file.
Mother's Day cameo
This is not that old of a design, but it is pretty old school. My Mother’s Day cameo design was based on an elegant Mother’s Day ice sculpture by Jeff Stahl.
this is a relatively new design, but based on an old design, the ionic column vase.
Mother's Day vase
Calling this a Mother’s Day vase is pretty lazy on the titling front. I already had another Mother’s Day vase, the heart vase down below. Oh well, maybe creativity isn’t my best asset 😜
sometimes I feel like I’m recycling ideas, but still improving on them 😉 This new rose is better, for sure.
rose for Mom
Ok, so this past Mother’s Day (2024), evidently I was ON FIRE 🔥 creatively. I managed to produce a new rose design, a new high heel design, and a new vase design. These all go with the old rose design, the old stiletto heel design, and another Mother’s Day vase design. Definitely brand new stuff! 🤣
here’s an oldie but not-so-goodie? This snow rose design never has seemed very popular.
snow rose
Here’s my original rose ice sculpture design. I sometimes call it the snow rose or the frozen rose. It has a Mother’s Day variation in the post.
I’m not saying that you couldn’t sculpt this for a conservative country club’s Mother’s Day brunch, but it’s probably a better fit for more contemporary venues.
stiletto heel
Originally designed for 40th and 50th birthday parties, my stiletto heel design works great when you need something a bit more “modern” for Mother’s Day brunch.
this is a versatile design that also works for Valentine’s Day and weddings too.
heart vase
I’ve had my heart vase design for a while and it’s unusual in that I actually hollow out the vase section for flower to be placed in it. Usually my vase sculptures are actually pedestals with an arrangement just sitting on top.
more to come, hopefully?
While it’s sometimes a little tougher to come up with unique Mother’s Day ice sculpture designs (as opposed to say, Easter, Halloween, or Christmas), I still have a few more lying around, just being lazy good-for-nothings! So before NEXT spring, I should have some more Mother’s Day ice sculpture designs for you to check out and maybe even use for your own sculptures.
I’ve been working on getting rid of the dead links in the older designs. Hopefully I’ve got those taken care of, at least for my Mother’s Day ice sculpture designs!
And wait, I forgot to write about my MOM! I guess I oversold that a little in the preview :/ She does know this is here though and gave her stamp of approval 💯 Plus, I just got back from a nice vacation to visit here and my siblings, so that was awesome! Hi Mom! 😊
