Nathan Blair Moran send in a pic of the circle vase ice sculpture that he created. It looks great with a beautiful floral arrangement! Thanks Nathan!

a circle vase ice sculpture design
My circle vase ice sculpture design is very similar to another design: the diamond vase. I was thinking that they may just be variations of one another rather than separate designs. But a square (or diamond) peg won’t fit in a round hole, so I’m keeping them separate for now at least.
since maybe you don’t want Amber & Matthew on your ice vase, I’ve included a blank version of my circle vase ice sculpture design.
As you can see from the dates on the pics, this is a pretty old design. So why is the post so recent? That’s because I evidently never added this design in a post, I just stuck it on the site. Sssshhh, don’t tell anyone!
design variations?
I got nothing right now. Well, except for the diamond vase that I mentioned earlier. How about YOU come up with a design variation this time!? Actually, that would be super helpful! Comment below if you think of anything.
what about sculpting on the CNC?
The best CNC machine that I’ve ever run for making ice vases is the I-Sculpt 3D upright machine. You never even have to lay the ice block down. It does the engraving and makes the outline cuts partway into the block. Then you turn the block around and it finishes the outline cuts.
It’s not 100% perfect. You have to be careful to get the alignment right between the front and back cuts. And you have to make sure that the extra ice doesn’t come crashing down and damage something when it’s finishing the outline cuts. And then it also can’t cut the very bottom of the sculpture usually. But it still is a pretty awesome system. I’ve used one in Florida to cut a few vases.
But since I have a smaller machine right now, I’ll probably be doing a combo of CNC engraving and hand sculpting if I tackle this piece any time soon.
all of my older designs had the dotted lines on the template, since they’re actually useful if you decide to forego the template and just draw the design on the ice.
