a Cat in the Hat ice sculpture, step by step

I think when I had this Cat in the Hat ice sculpture sequence on the original ice carving secrets website, it was broken down into multiple galleries, maybe as many as 5! I didn’t do that this time, since the number of galleries on this site could become a little unmanageable as it it 😱 So this gallery is kinda BIG, compared to some others. But, it’s FINE, you’ll be ok πŸ€ͺ

The Cat in the Hat was a complicated colorfill ice sculpture to do by hand. I don’t recommend it on a regular basis, but it was a fun challenge to see how well I could make an ice version of him, albeit a flat version.

I WISH I’d gotten pics from the event; I’m curious how it looked when it was set, but this was a deliver to the freezer and leave sort of sculpture. (Thing 1 and Thing 2 were as well.) But at least I got way too many pics of the sculpting process, lol! But of course, some who want to learn how to do this might want even MORE pics, while others will be bored to tears πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I think I was supposed to put something here…πŸ€” I’ll think of something…patience please ;P

my Cat in the Hat ice sculpture is fan art and a nostalgic look back to being a kid

Like a Disney character ice sculpture or maybe something like Snoopy, my Cat in the Hat ice sculpture was not a typical project. It meant a lot of freezer time πŸ₯Ά and was a one-time sculpture that I don’t expect to repeat. (And actually, I don’t really want to; once was enough!) I don’t expect you to make it either; I only show this sculpting sequence so that it’s easier to understand how to approach a challenging colorfill ice sculpting project.

The Cat in the Hat ice sculpture project was definitely fun to work on though. Of course, I had to research it, and that meant touching on books and stories that I hadn’t read or even thought about for years. Researching a sculpture can sometimes take you down rabbit holes and this was one of childhood nostalgia. Horton Hears a Who and Green Eggs and Ham suddenly made cameo appearances in my head after decades of dormancy. I don’t even eat ham anymore, and I’d especially be wary of green ham 🀒, but I still like the rhymes and appreciate Sam’s persistence 😜

still more Dr. Seuss ice

As luck would have it, I’ve seen (not sculpted) a LOT of other Dr. Seuss ice sculptures. Check out some links below, that is, if I got around to adding them πŸ˜‰

oops, nothing yet

oops, still nothing…

still?!

I probably still have to add something here too…😬
