ok, so an evil eye ice sculpture is not something you’re likely to use very often đ€·ââïž But it’s here if you need it, lol!
my evil eye ice sculpture design

The famous quote is that the âeyes are windows to the soul.â My intent in this case was to imply a dark and dangerous soul behind the sculpture. This piece was used at a New Orleans Halloween art exhibit/party and I submitted a photo of it to the recent NICA Design and Sculpt contest. (And it actually won!)
The ice pedestal supporting the sculpture is covered with black velvet, making the eye appear to float in midair. A variety of lighting gels are used to color the sculpture. The iris is colored red with a Apollo gel thatâs appropriately named âBludgeon Redâ while oranges and yellows color the rest. The black pupil is simply a hole in the sculpture and takes its main color from the black velvet background. The eyeâs sclera, or white of the eye, is snowfilled with white snow so that the yellow and orange gels give it a jaundiced look. You can make the fiery eyelashes and brow as delicate as you wish.
The design was intended as a single, standalone piece, but it could easily be combined with its mirror image to create an interesting display (see a photoshopped mirror pic below). While carving, take care to leave a wide supporting pedestal and keep the sculpture balanced so that it wonât fall over. You may want to add an additional base for stability.
I used a fairly basic Canon digital camera with image stabilization to take the initial photo (at the top of the entry). I couldnât find a memory card for my SLR camera, so it wasnât an option, but that wasnât really a problem. NO FLASH was used. I’d really like to do this for a Halloween party, at the entrance. Super creepy!
how would I handle it on a CNC?
Can you make your evil eye ice sculpture on your CNC? Yes, I think so. I used a thicker block for my original sculpture, but that was probably overkill. (You might know that a thicker block potentially requires more steps and/or a more capable CNC machine.) I’ll be looking forward to trying this design on my Laguna IQ CNC, since I think it’s VERY doable. And then I’ll post pics!
