(plus a tie π!)
Father’s Day is on June 18 this year. IF you need Father’s Day ice sculpture designs, then take a look at my collection.
Dad doesn't get the fuss that Mom does...
updated with new additions 7/10/23
Even though nobody makes as big a deal for Father’s Day as they do for Mother’s Day (btw, Mother’s Day is apparently the BUSIEST restaurant day of the entire year!), Dad still gets his day. At some places, at least Β And some of those places do full buffets with ice sculptures! Er, sorry, probably not “ice sculptures,” plural. More likely “ice sculpture,” singular.
Father's Day is kind of a big day for me as well
Father’s Day is kind of a big deal for me, even though I’m not a dad. I used to be a stepdad, but that was a while ago. More importantly to me, my dad and my stepdad are gone, so it’s a day for me to remember them both. Father’s Day also happens to be the day that I started sculpting ice. I’ve written about Father’s Day and what it means to me before and I’ve retitled that post Father’s Day memories.
Hopefully all that helps you understand why I’ve put probably at least as much effort into Father’s Day ice as I have Mother’s Day ice. Without that context, this would make no sense π€ͺ since Mother’s Day is FAR busier.
All the Father's Day ice sculpture designs
Here’s what’s on the site right now for Father’s Day ice sculptures:
(Use the links below to jump down to the design preview.)
DAD, horizontal block letter
DAD, vertical block letter
deer head
golf ball
redfish
sailboat
sailfish
salmon
seahorse
seahorse (classic)
shipβs wheel
tie
yellowfin tuna
for me at least, this is kind of the classic Father’s Day ice sculpture design
"DAD" (horizontal)
This Father’s Day ice sculpture design is kinda similar to the first ice sculpture I ever made! Or it would be if this design went out for a long night of drinking and got in a couple of fights, maybe got dropped off a balcony too. Can you tell that I’m a little embarrassed about my first ice? π¬ Evidently though, I got a little better, so there’s a happy ending at least.
this Father’s Day ice sculpture design fits in tighter spaces than the regular horizontal “DAD”
"DAD" (vertical)
This DAD design is just like the design above, except…it’s vertical instead of horizontal! Actually, that’s not totally true, since dad’s letters don’t stack as well as others. Mom did better here.
But never mind about all that. So do you know about the history of Father’s Day? (This is the part where you’re supposed to learn something. Other than how to make an ice sculpture, I mean.)
if there’s a need for a very outdoorsy Father’s Day brunch sculpture, then this design is right on target!
deer head
This deer head design is obviously aimed straight at dads that like to hunt. So if there’s a club for a lot of sportsmen that needs a Father’s Day brunch sculpture, this is the one!
if your dad is really bad at golf, you can always get him more golf balls. Obviously, he’s going to need them! Meanwhile, this big golf ball on a tee is the golfiest Father’s Day ice sculpture design that I have.
golf ball
Dad isn’t supposed to care about going to brunch, so for many of these sculpture ideas, the plan is basically to remind him of all the things he could be doing INSTEAD of going to Sunday brunch. Like play a round of golf!
Sorry Dad, no time for that today! Brunch is going to take too long and you’re going to be wiped out and in a food coma after 3 trips to the buffet! Plus, you snuck a couple mimosas, so that didn’t help!
But this Father’s Day golf ball ice sculpture will remind you of the glorious day you COULD have had, looking for your Titleist that you hooked off into the woods π²π©
oh there he is! The big one that got away! Actually, the one dad says he was going to catch was going to be WAY bigger. But he had to go to brunch instead π Anyway, pretty much any fish can be a nice Father’s Day ice sculpture, as long as it’s something that dad would want to catch.
redfish
I suppose a redfish ice sculpture design only really works if you’re around the Gulf Coast. I should probably look things up before I say something stupid, but do they have redfish on the east and west coasts? I’ll check for next time. But dad ain’t catching NOTHIN’ today, redfish or otherwise, cuz he’s stuck at brunch!
I suppose it’s pretty easy to guess that thisΒ sailboat is one of my favorite Father’s Day ice sculpture designs, since it’s on here twice.
sailboat
For most dads, their sailing dreams have been dashed against the rocks like an ice sculpture falling off a buffet. But you can remind all the dads what they could have been with this magnificent (and new!) sailboat ice sculpture design.
based a bit on a classic ice sculpture design by ice sculpting legend Mitsuo Shimizu, this sailfish design represents Dad’s delusions of deep sea fishing success. But again, any big, catchable fish makes for a pretty good Father’s Day ice sculpture!
sailfish
Dad was going to sneak away on Sunday to do some deep sea fishing! But on Saturday night, mom reminded him not to make any plans for the next morning π He wasn’t going to catch anything anyway though, so this sailfish ice sculpture is the best he’s going to do.
ok Dad, if you can’t go fish for sailfish, what about salmon? You don’t even need a boat for them and they sometimes almost come right to you! But remember, there’s bears too π±
leaping salmon
Well, the deep sea fishing plan didn’t work, but Dad had a Father’s Day plan B: sneak off to the Alaskan wilderness and do really manly stuff like live in a crappy cabin. And to eat, he’d go fish for huge leaping salmon while avoiding grizzly bears! But dammit, brunch foiled his plans again!
see all those teeny tiny seahorsies? Those are fry, following Dad around. I don’t know if baby seahorses actually follow their parents around, or if they typically swim away to quickly become snacks for other fish π± But they follow dad for the sake of this Father’s Day ice sculpture. So there.
swimming seahorse
I first came up with this seahorse design for a bar mitzvah. (without the Father’s Day part, of course π€ͺ) Then later I was somehow reminded that seahorses are good dads and thus a nice symbol for Father’s Day. Change out the bubbles for a message plus some baby seahorses and you’re good to go!
this seahorse pulls double duty as a ocean-themed piece and a Father’s Day ice sculpture design.
classic seahorse
Like the other seahorse above, this Father’s Day seahorse ice sculpture design reminds us that seahorses are awesome dads. In the seahorse court system, there’s actually a noticeable bias in favor of dads, simply because they’re so indisputably awesome! Seahorse moms, on the other hand, are seen as somewhat irresponsible and judges usually award custody to the dad when divorce happens.
This sculpture design is a bit more of a stretch than the my other seahorse design though, since it’s missing the seahorse fry. But up to you!
Yup, Dad COULD be out on the open water, captain of his own destiny! But instead, he’s in the brunch line waiting for them to add more shrimp to the buffet π€¨
ship's wheel
Now THIS ship’s wheel ice sculpture design is awesome in that it will remind dad that he could have a boat…if he didn’t have to spend so much money on the kids π«
well, for this collection of Father’s Day ice sculpture designs to be complete, there had to be a tie, obviously π
tie for Dad
And almost last but totally not least, a tie for Father’s Day! And it’s not even a clip-on! This design is brand new and even though the design pic seems normal size, it’s a smaller, more conservative ice sculpture, perfect for the MUCH smaller budget that the country club has for its Father’s Day brunch :/
If you decide to make this, send me a pic and I’ll post it on the the design post. Thanks in advance!
finally, here’s a last game fish, a yellowfin tuna, to remind Dad that he COULD be fishing.
yellowfin tuna
If you can’t see by now that a lot of my Father’s Day ice sculpture designs are related to fishing, I don’t know what to tell you π€·ββοΈ Here’s one final one, my yellowfin tuna!
more to come, hopefully?
I just update this with a couple new additions. I also have a golfer design or two that I’ll add at some point, but definitely until I get some other things done. I probably will avoid adding more fish for a bit too.
In addition, in the past, I’ve seen some sculptors do some pretty cool Superdad-type sculptures. I have to be careful to stay away from DC Superman imagery here, but at some point, I’d like to do my own version of that design. Don’t hold your breath though…
If you like this stuff, comment. Thanks!!
