Ben Rand inspects his ice sculpture, "Up in the Heavens" at a competition

fantastic ice sculptures from Ben Rand

Ben Rand is one of the most decorated ice sculptors in the world. He’s won the U.S. national ice sculpting championship, a world ice art championship, and an Olympic Arts Festival ice sculpting gold medal. That’s the trifecta of ice sculpting awards, at least from an American point of view. Plus, he won the Canadian Cup in 2018 at Ice Magic with Scott Harrison. (I was actually a judge at that event.)

Ben is based in Florida and his ice sculpture company is Ben Rand Ice Studio.

I’ve had the opportunity to sculpt against Ben in competition a few times and even had a chance to judge his ice art in Lake Louise at Ice Magic. He’s always acted with class and professionalism and is clearly a very talented ice artist. Most recently, Ben has again qualified for the Olympic ice sculpting event, to be held in 2026. Congrats!

The pics in the gallery are either Ben Rand’s property or my own pics (unless it says otherwise). Ben’s pics are used with permission. I have a few more recent pics of Ben’s work (from Lake Louise) that I will add as soon as I finish 3534 other things first πŸ™„

According to my SEO plug-in, I also really should write a lot more for this page too ⬇️ The work never ends…

Ben used to work with Dean Carlson at Styled Ice, another top-notch Florida ice sculptor who will have a gallery here again soon. But as such, Ben had an early leg up with the I-Sculpt CNC machine system and has done some amazing designs with it since. Like many ice sculptors (including myself), he makes his ice sculptures via a combination of hand and machine sculpting.

Like I did back in 2004, Ben has competed on Junichi Nakamura’s team at the World Ice Art Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska. (See the first pic in the gallery.) Unlike me, he competed with Junichi in the two man competition (I was on one of Junichi’s four man team.) Also unlike me, he and Junichi won that year! (When I was on Junichi’s team, we took 2nd, which is awesome, but also slightly disappointing, lol.)

Finally, let’s see, off the top of my head, I think I’ve competed against Ben four times, in Lewisville (Texas), Houston, Orlando, and Park City (Utah). There are possibly other times that I’ll remember later when my subconscious gets to work on it. But Ben has always been classy and a top-notch competitor. So much that I won’t even say if I ever beat him or not 😜

Hey! It could happen! And it might have. But not telling 😢 Well, maybe I’ll tell later…
